Oh Avatar casting, always with the making me want to stab myself in the face.

At least the ethnicities are consistent. I don't have as much as a problem with this as Katara, Sokka, and Suki. Though the whole 'lets make the evil guys in this all middle eastern looking! And all the clear good guys white!' kinda makes me wince. Hopefully the fact that Iroh and Zuko are good guys will cancel that out. Honestly, I think I'd be fine with this if it wasn't for the casting of the four main characters.

ETA: Actually, no. I'm really not fine with making the fire nation middle eastern. Cause while it's nice that they're having more ethnic representation besides white, they're still trying to make something that's based off east asian culture into something that it's not.

Fuck you to whoever is in charge of casting.

I don't want to hear about anymore Avatar casting cause I flip out every time and there's only so much anger I can deal with.

Oh, and somewhat related--the cultural appropriation debate/racefail!2009? I've been avoiding it. Partly because many of the authors that are mentioned are ones that I really like. But at the same time, I know if I thought about it, and if I read through the links...I'll be as frothing as I am with the Avatar wank. I'll probably read through everything in time. Especially the ones with links to book recs. Cause I've come to realize that whenever the books I read have non-white characters done well, I actually get really happy. I never realized it before. There's such a skew towards white characters in fantasy/sci-fi that I never even noticed.
